Does Google DNS slow down internet?

Posted on

DNS itself is unlikely to directly affect your download or upload speeds. One possible reason for a change in performance from a speed test tool is that it is using DNS to get a “nearby” IP address to use for testing, and the domain it is using to get the list of IPs does not support EDNS Client Subnet (RFC 7871).

Does DNS affect Internet speed?

Although DNS is not directly related to your Internet speed, it can influence how fast an individual webpage appears on your computer. Once a connection has been established though, it should not affect download speeds. If you want to amend your router’s DNS servers however, this can help improve your overall speed.

Does using Google DNS make internet faster?

Google and OpenDNS attach your IP address to the DNS requests. This means that the data is loaded from a server local to you, improving your overall internet speed.

Is it better to use Google DNS?

It puts significant stress on the existing DNS structure and over time has slowed down browsing speeds significantly. This is why people often opt to use a public DNS, like Google. The first advantage to using Google Public DNS is speed, reliability and performance.

Should I block Google DNS?

Important Note: Blocking Google DNS is only required if you are using Smart DNS to unblock American Netflix on Roku or Chromecast. Using VPN allows you to bypass the need to setup static routes all together.
