Can I reuse a SSD with Windows on it?


The version of Windows on a laptop will be an OEM version. It’s activation will be locked to the machine. You can, however, reuse the SSD itself with another, generic version of Windows.

Can you reuse a SSD with Windows 10?

You can reuse both, although if you want to reuse the Windows install, a clean install is definitely recommended – and you may/may not have success reactivating.

Also Windows activation depends on hardware and Microsoft in past had lot of complains, eg deactivated even when user changed HDD.

Yes, you can plug another disk with Windows OS on it. However make sure that BIOS booting sequence prefers the internal SSD as first boot option and not any other drive. I have a PC with a 2TB HDD and I want to install a 256GB SSD.

Can I reuse my SSD in another computer?

Yes. Assuming your new computer is fully operational with Windows installed and so on, you can just plug your old SSD drive into an empty SATA socket and it will appear in your system as drive D: You can access the data on there, although the first time you try to it will ask you if you want to claim ownership.
